    Leeds is ideally positioned in the UK. It has excellent transport links with many other UK cities. There are many cities within a couple of hours of Leeds that are worth exploring. During your three years at University in Leeds, you may as well take the opportunity to see some of the cities that surround Leeds. You can go on day trips or even stop off in a city for a couple of days. Here are six cities that are all within a two hour drive from Leeds.

    Manchester


    If you are studying in Leeds, don’t miss out on the chance to visit Manchester. Manchester has changed a lot since the industrial days, and is now an ambitious edgy city with lots going on. There’s a thriving arts and music scene, excellent shopping and a huge selection of cafes, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. It’s definitely worth planning a big night out in Manchester if you get the chance. It takes just over an hour to drive to Manchester from Leeds and just under an hour on the train.

    York


    York is about a 45 minute drive from Leeds or just 25 minutes on the train. York is an intriguing city. It has a distinctive medieval feel to it with its narrow streets and 13th century walls. Although it is becoming a popular city with tourists, it has still maintained its traditional charm. There’s lots of interesting things to do with attractions such as the National Railway Museum, Jorvik Viking Centre, York Dungeon and York Castle.

    Liverpool is located an hour and a half’s drive or just under two hours on the train from Leeds. You can’t study for three years in Leeds without at least one day trip to this famous city.

    Liverpool has a big reputation in the football world, but it also has a fascinating cultural side. Liverpool is home to more museums than any city outside of London. Make sure you visit some of the most famous attractions including the Albert Docks, Anfield, the Merseyside Maritime Museum and the Beatles

    Blackpool has been a popular UK holiday destination for decades. Blackpool is a little cliche and tacky in some parts, but it's still a fun city to visit. Blackpool is about an hour and a half’s drive or two and a half hours on the train from Leeds. Escape to the coast and enjoy some of the fun attractions Blackpool has to offer. The main attractions are Blackpool Tower and Blackpool Pleasure

    Nottingham


    Nottingham is about an hour and a halfs drive or two hours on the train from Leeds. Famous for it’s Robin Hood Roots, Nottingham is a bustling city with great nightlife, shopping and a variety of historical sights to see. Visit the Old Market Square, Nottingham Castle and Wollaton Hall and Park whilst you are in the city. The City of Caves and Rushcliffe Country Park are also worth a visit.
